Plastic Surgery???
At Dalian Hoffen Bio-Technique Company in northern China, people turn other people into plastic. Plastination is a four-step process during which polymers replace water and fat molecules in biological specimens.
Plastinated bodies don’t decompose, and museums and medical schools can display them with exposed muscles, veins and brains in exhibits around the world. One such exhibit, called “Bodies,” has visited dozens of cities worldwide since it opened in 2005. Hong-Jin Sui founded the Dalian facility in 2002 after he studied plastination under the man who invented it, Gunther von Hagens. Sui says the human bodies processed at Dalian Hoffen come from medical universities and the animals from zoos and aquariums. It can take more than two years to plastinate large animals, such as whales, but humans take only eight to 12 months.

This is actually very weird in my opinion, I mean to be looking at an actual body with plastic in it after death would be very awkward. But also it can be cool to keep a loved one for scientific use, and seeing their body being used for good reason. Although people will probably think this method shouldn't be allowed, I think its a good use as long as people agree with it before they die, since it allows people to study beyond what they normally can.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the idea of using real human bodies has a deeper, moral impact on the viewer. However, if i were in a room full of preserved corpses put on display, i would want to leave. The bodies shown in the video creep me out and this sounds like the plot to a horror film.
ReplyDeleteI think making real human corpses plastic is very creepy. But, i do believe this could eventually be used for advances in technology, and learning about the human body more in general. If they could make tumors and things plastic it could eventually help research and cure diseases that are not at the moment cured. This is a very creepy idea, but it could have some positive affects.
ReplyDeleteEven though as weird as it is I think it would make sense to be able to go deeper into that field and to study it so closely. It could open up new possibilities and chances to experiment on how the body works and reacts, that way that new knowledge can be added to the ever growing mind. But back to my first thought, it really is weird.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of making real human corpses plastic is creepy. Being able to see inside someone and all there organs just makes me want to crawl in a hole.I feel like if those people were alive today they'd probably feel a major invasion of privacy. We are humans not inside out human barbie and ken dolls. Although I do feel like it could help advance the scientific field, just get someone who agreed to it before they died, and keep them in just labs.
ReplyDeleteI think that preserving dead bodies in the name of science is interesting. This can be used to benefit our knowledge of our own body. This will certainly help new medical practitioners learn more about the human body.
ReplyDeleteI think that the idea of plastination is very weird and helpful at the same time. I think that it can help us expand our knowledge about the human body. I don't know if i like the idea of this process personally, but if it used for science i guess im perfectly fine with it.
ReplyDeletePlastination is kind is weird and seems very time consuming. Also, who gets the permission to do this with these body parts? Although the idea of it is very informational based i can see why they do this. Since using the actual body parts more bio-technicians must benefit off of it since it is the real parts.
ReplyDeleteI believe that plastination is a cool process. It shows you what the organs are like at the time of death. The inconvenience of this process is the time it takes and the moral aspect of it. It's a long process to drain the fats and fluids and position the organs but is worth the wait. Also I believe it is okay because people give their consent to the process in order to advance science.
ReplyDeleteThe plastination process is very wierd to me, but also seems extremely beneficial for the future of Anatomy. It can help people learn a lot about the human body, especially the people in school who get sent the bodies for Anatomy class. I want to know how the bodies get chosen because they dont do this to everyone who dies and im sure they have to get permission from a family member of the corpse before they do anything to it. I can see how this can be really interesting to some people, but to me it is creppy.
ReplyDeletePlastination seems weird and it is. However, in a way it's also not that weird. It's different than what we've been doing especially to people to study humans. We take pictures of what people look like inside and even cut people open in some college classes. In my opinion, plastination is a less gruesome way of studying the body. It can be beneficial to science advances and learning even more about humans and other species. It's still kind of weird though.
ReplyDeleteThe process of plastication may seem and look disgusting, but instead he future it could be a big help in the advancement of anatomy. Seeing humans inside out is a easy way for scientists to study the make up of our bodies. I personally would not want to see it, but I'm sure their are people out there that find it fascinating.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a good idea for helping people better understand the human body. Being able to see a real body can be an advantage for the people studying them instead of using prototypes. If the person whos body is being is used is ok with it then i see no problem with it.
ReplyDeleteI think this is actually really weird and kind of creepy. But also this will help students understand their own body a little better. Honestly why do they have to use a dead body instead of a fully unreal one. This will help us in the future though because it helps us see what's on the inside more.
ReplyDeleteThis will help science better understand human anatomy. However, this is, in my opinion, morally unjust.
ReplyDeleteI think this is very interesting. I say this because it'll without a doubt help students learn and speed up the process. I think it could even help if people could see a Plastination of a brain/body that died from a disease or other things so it could show what affect those have on the inside of the body. Rather than, one autopsy. I think that this could only further our information of the human body.
ReplyDeleteI think this is very weird. And if I were actually there looking at the dead bodies being made into plastic, I'd be very creeped out. However, if this will help scientists understand human anatomy, i think it's okay. As long as the person knows this is what will happen to their body after they die.
ReplyDeleteI think this is really cool. Plastination is an a very cool and effective form of preservation. I myself have seen the "Bodies" exhibit when it came to the Louisville Science center. The way the artist positioned the body showed of every detail. This is a very clever use of unused bodies.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a wonderful thing and its interesting.I think will help us better understand our bodies and the bodies of animals. It will show us how certain animals might use their bodies to adapt or hunt. This will also show that we can use resources we might be wasting to better understand things. This shows that people come up with new ways to use things everyday and every idea expands our knowledge of how we could use things.
ReplyDeleteIt will*
DeleteI feel that plastination will help us to better understand the function/structure of human and animal bodies. This is a very useful process. However, I think the idea is weird. I wouldn't want to be looking at dead bodies. I would be creeped out.
ReplyDeleteI feel this is very interesting, but somewhat weird at the same time. I would go to the museum if I had a chance but would never want that to happen to my body. I can see how this would be helpful, but the process seems like a long time.
ReplyDeleteI fell that this process is very disturbing because I believe that dead bodies should be either cremated or buried in the ground. Sure this new technology for studying living creatures will help us in the future but, to be honest just thinking about the process would give me nightmares. I mean really your dissecting a dead person that was once alive it just freaks me out. Overall though, the new discovery is very interesting but, the process would take to long for me to wait for the finished product.
ReplyDeleteThis product is cool but it wouldn't be enough to save from going to the dentist. This product could help people in need. it could be donated and help people who dont have dentist offices around or cannot afford to go.
